Kinda pissed off at dealership......
A few months ago I bought an 05 997S from a local dealership CPO.
After 3,000 miles I went to do my own oil change only to find that the oil drain plug is stripped and I am unable to get it out. Should I call my stealer and ***** him out ???? |

You need to start looking for a local independent repair/performance "Porsche" shop. Check around, or contact your regional PCA or POC president and see who support them in you local area. Stop in an talk with the guys, start to build a relationship with them! Any shop can take your money, what you need is shop who takes care of your Porsche and is concerned with your safety. He should point out items/issue that need to be address. And will have tips on the maintenance that you want to handle; along with his input from him working on Porsche's of all type.

You should call the stealer and have him remove and replace the drain plug under CPO anyway.

I can tell you that from first hand experince, I have watched and seen tech's totally and utterly destroy things. I have to be a little careful how I word things, but in the bitter end it's
a horrific Shakespearean tragedy. 1. When something is stripped, you need to take a very very serious methodical approach. Nothing is left to wounder, theories etc. 2. Simply replacing a drain plug is not acceptable. I have watched very and highly experinced tech's attempt to re-thred and often times the car is back shortly after with a leaky drain plug tapped. 3. You need to have the pan replaced, the dealer should of inspected this prior, you're in a pickle. A. You purchused the car as is, or B. You purchused the car with a warrenty. The problem is a matter of who really is guitly. A. Did a swarthy sharkish salesman have knowledge. B. Was the tech scared or lazy in a rush. Usually when a plug is stripped bad like that it means some ( god for bid ) air tool was used. C. Sometimes the mannagement /sales side has no real 110% concreate evidance or knowledge of whats going on in the shop. ( Antics, I know ) and I know that is not acceptable to the client ie yourself. However I suggest discussing the matter, if the dealership is infact a true Porsche dealer and customer service is correct you should be good.

On the other hand, the selling dealer may not have had to change the oil if the service history stated that maintenance was up to date and an oil service was not required.
The in-hex drain plug can be damaged, usually a new drain plug (and crush washer) is all that is required. It is the same part number as a 944/928 cam housing plug. If you are changing the oil yourself, always use a good quality 3/8" drive hex socket and torque the plug to the factory setting.

Replace it with with a magnetic one from LN engineering. The in-hex is larger making it harder to strip out.
