New 996 owner here
I am new to the Porsche club. I recently bought a used 2 owner MY 2000 996.
First owner put 9000+ miles on her in 2000, second owner put 10,000 miles on her between 2000 and 2011. I have put close to 5000 miles on her in the last 3 months. My last car, which I traded in for the Porsche was a 2003 Infiniti G35 with many performance upgrades. I was a moderator, still am, on g35driver.com Attached are some photos of my new passion: ![]() New Stainless steel braided Goodridge brake lines being installed at my friends Porsche shop, KnightRace ![]()

Welcome to the world of 996 ownership. I'm also a 'newbie' to 996 ownership, so my learning curve has just begun. Your car looks nice. What other plans do have for it? What prompted your brake line upgrade? This is the place to be for advice, discussions and solutions to your problems.

With an 11 year old car with the last service date 3 years prior, we decided to change all fluids: engine oil, transmission fluid, radiator fluid and brake fluid.
The 11 year old rubber brake lines were a must according to my Porsche friend who owns KnightRace Porsche performance shop. He recommended Goodridge stainless steel braided teflon coated brake lines. I was game as I had SS lines on my old G35. For track use, I want excellent brakes. I really don't have any performance upgrades planned. This is more car than I have ever owned before. She is so pretty. I am not sure I will even track her. Last edited by DaveBerry; 06-30-2011 at 02:04 AM.. |

DaveBerry - I totally agree, thus my questions. I also had some maintenance done yesterday which entailed a brake/clutch fluid change, upgraded to S/S brake lines, installed new water pump, flushed and changed coolant and thermostat, replaced front axle boots and CV joints and installed a new ploy-rib belt.
Preventative maintenance and our rides should last awhile is the thought.

Dave don't want to be critical as I understand the car addiction, but maybe you should have slapped a coat of paint on the house first?? Just sayin'

Anyway, congrats on the new car. I just picked up a silver 02 coupe the other day. I had a BMW 335I but it was time to move on.

Nope, I just ordered them from the UK. They arrived within 2 weeks. You will be paying for them in British pounds converted to dollars. I just did it because I had to have them! They look great and serve a purpose.
