First Porsche - Supercharged 996????

Hi everyone, I just stumbled across this forum and I have to say, its a great wealth of info and I'll be back often. Until I'm up to speed I was hoping for a few suggestions on what to look for when I go test drive a 2002 911 w a SC.

It has 50K miles and seems to be in pretty good condition with impeccable service records. Is there anything in particular I need to check for or be aware of? Certain questions to ask to make sure that everything is in good working order?

I'm somewhat hesitant of buying a Porsche that a previous owner had SC'ed since I know so of the 50K were hard miles...but I figure if I arm myself with enough knowledge I might be able to pick up a pretty incredible car.

Here is the link, thoughts? -

2002 Porsche 911

Thanks

An aftermarket Turbo is quite BAD enough, an aftermarket SC even WORSE.

Technical knowhow for an SC'd 996 is practically non-existent.

"..arm myself with enough knowledge..."

That's a long, long road ahead.

Thanks!!

Seems as though passing on the SC'ed 996 may be the way to go, although I'm still on the hunt for a NA version.

Are there any Pelicans around DC? I'd love to get some wisdom and maybe a shop rec for the PPI.....

I would search the Porsche Club web sites for used 996's and pick the newest and best maintained car that fits your budget.

Here is the car - anyone have any intel? The previous owner took pretty good car of the car and he put on a Vortech V3 supercharger, Fabspeed headers and X pipe. The thing goes like a bat out of hell and sounds really mean. I'm trying to research how much boost he was running though since it seems odd to sink 23K into upgrades and then sell it 1,000 miles later.

SC's have been used on the 996 for many years with proven reliability running a low boost 5-7psi boost most problems incurred with them depends on state reg/smog testing etc. They run just like stock until around 4500 RPM then fun fun fun you mentioned the V3 SC which is the newest SC and oil for is self contained in the unit. . Search these other forums with loads of info on them. I would suggest a PPI on car as precaution.

Its actually a VF Engineering kit that is installed. There is an Vortech V3 supercharger and an intercooler.

I feel a little better about the install knowing its a kit engineered directly for Porsche.
