I have been reviewing the forums on rear break pad replacement on my 1999 996 and all showed the pads popping right out, well mine were stuck.
A little pulling (too much probably) and out one popped with two disks stuck to it. They seem to be 'caliper dust covers' but I am not sure. I have not seen any images or videos that show these. Can someone with some knowledge provide me with some information on these? See photo. Your help, as always is greatly appreciated. ![]() Tom

They are called anti squeal shims, and are meant to reduce noise from the brakes.

Thank you! with your reply I was able to find this as part number "96435109602" and or "96435109601". I see that there are some recommendations that these do not need to be used if the originals were damaged..as mine were. I will give it shot without and if there is squeal, I will go back in! Let me know if anyone has any thoughts about not reinstalling them with Textar pads. Thanks again. Tom
