Battery options
I have a 99 Carrera 6sp Coupe. I am the second owner.
What I have been dealing with for over two years is a good battery (checked everything including a hydrometer) that sometimes takes three or four tries to fire up the engine. I have never been stranded. The dash gauge while running shows 14 Volts. I am going to eventually put another battery in. Sometimes it is a little embarrasing leaving a friends' house even tho it will evertually start. What happens is it will crank for a short period and then quit. I have to release the clutch and try again. It is worse in real hot (90 degrees on up at running temp, 200 degrees f). I am thinking it just might be normal because I live in a hot climate. I don't know. What battery fires up the engine every time? I will get one. Thanks. |

Try a Bosche at just over $100 from Pep Boys. If that doesnt do it then it's certainly not a battery fault. You have to look further. Or even better, take your battery to be tested at Pep Boys. If they says it's good then you have to look further into your problem.

I took the battery in and it basically will not charge past 52%.
That was why it would barely turn the flywheel. Anyway, I put in a new battery and all is well. Batteries can be expensive. Some in the $300.00 range. I shopped and got a 48 for $135.00. Much better now. Alternator is putting out 14 volts. Battery static voltage is 12.7. Thanks for the help. |
