Thin flange SSI's on 1980 SC ??

I have been offered a slightly used set of SSI's with a sport muffler at good price. They are THIN flange headers. My 1980 SC has the stock system with THICK flanges. Apart from the barrel nuts needing a spacer are there any problems with fitting the thin flange headers to an SC? For instance, are the header pipe lengths the same from the head face to the heat exchanger? Will I need to replace the studs with shorter ones?

Cheers Taz. I didn't have time for a detailed forum search with the boss looking over my shoulder.

I suspected the height might be an issue. I was going with spacers under the nuts as the threads on the studs are a bit worn. Maybe a spacer on the head side with an extra set of gaskets is needed to make up for the overall height difference. Easy fix either way.

My '80SC has thin flange SSIs on the long (thick flange) studs. One thick washer (~5mm) under the regular nuts, two under the barrel nuts. Let me know if you need pictures.

well, technically there is no problem to fix a thin flange SSI when you have long bolts.
The other way round would be no good without changing the bolts.

only problem you might face is that the stock barrel nuts wont set up full way as the bolt will show up in the center an you wont grip the nut anymore.
the idea of using wahsers (up to 5mm) is not so state of the art.
so better think of regular 6-edge copper nuts...

Washer or spacer under the nut is a good solution. Did you have any clearance problems with your muffler/tailpipe being a bit higher?

No problem at all. I bought a muffler off the board that came from a Carrera 3.0. Not sure if that made the difference.

Thanks. Good result. Now I just have to find the cash for the SSI's.

I work for GM in Oz. I'm keeping a low profile out of the gunsights.

one question:
it is common sence, on an SC, that one better fits the pre-76 oil line (the one going under the tranny), because the stock one will interfere with the right SSI and bending is not such a good/clean idea.

now I was wondering, if the one from the carrera 3.2 would do the job?

the advantages I see, are:
a) no interfereance with right SSI
b) ground clearance, most similar to SC-stock oil lin(*)

(* with the pre-76 oil line, I dont like the idea, that its th lowest point under the engine)

you confirm this?

I read earlier today that Elephant sells a line that goes over the transmission and works with either exhaust. That would solve your concern.

I know, but I dont get it in Germany.
And even then, I'd have to change the oil line to the thermostat.

So I immagine, the one from the 3.2 might be a good alternative.

Is it? Can anyone tell?
