996 sway and corning issue
Have a 2002 996 with 64000 miles. I slid out on a corner and hit a curb at 20 mph. Both wheels hit the curb. Since then I have noticed a lose / more sensetive steering, little sway at 80 mph, steering wheel out of line, not at top, ( before this just had new tires and alignment).
I noticed that the passenger rear OEM wheel has a 1 inch crack where the spoke/rim connect , only visible physical damage. The dealer wants $450 just to look at it. Have any of you 911 owners done this or have any ideas on this issue or what it could possibly be????? Thanks any thoughts would help to move forward and get this fixed. |

You might ask for a local independent shop from some of the other CA Pelicans. $450 to look at! Yikes. Because the suspension is a multi-link style, you could have some things bent. You probably need another alignment. The wheel might have to be replaced. Definitely not safe to drive with a cracked spoke.

OK, thanks for the info. I took it in and to an independent and they said the tie end link was bent, I can see it now. They want to replace it with an adjustable TELink which is 2.5 x the non adjustable link. I wonder why, it looks like it is an in and out job. Also should I buy one of the three on PP and take it in?
I bought 4 used wheels OEM and 85% thread on Michelin PS. They ride better than my P Zeros. I will have my old wheels checked out . Can they straighten them and fix the cracked spoke? |
