996 door window raise/lower issues

Hello- Driving my 99 south for the winter. Very heavy frost this morning in Va-so I ran the passenger and driver side windows up and down once to scrape the frost. Now the driver door lowers about 5 inches when the door is closed, and when you operate the window with the switch it, it stops at the top position, then goes back down 5 inches and stops. It has never done this before today. No amount of fiddling seems to help. Also the passenger door has stopped dropping when the door latch handle is lifted.
I remember seeing a post on this here or on rennlist, but I cannot seem to find it now. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

A lot of discussion on Rennlist on the passenger door issue-I think I understand how to fix that. However-nothing to help with the driver door window problem. Additional -the window only drops 2 to 3 inches, not 5 as I posted. Also-the horn only beeps once and the window does not work at all when using the key in the outside lock socket. TIA for any ideas.

It sounds like there might be frost/ice in the door handle micro switches?

Try the window reset procedure. Window all of the way down hold switch for 15 sec, window all the way up hold for 15 sec.

Thank you Frank. Update-the driver side did need to have the reset procedure done. I tried it several times without any change. However, in order for the reset to work, you must first disconnect the battery and then reconnect it. I assume that this must wipe the position memory clean. My guess is that the cold and the frost on the glass caused a high load on the motor and regulator moving parts and must have triggered a partial loss of the position memory.

Good that you got the drivers side working. Reset work on the passenger side after the battery disconnect?

Reset does not help on passenger side. Symptoms are-you can hear the motor/regulator trying when you trigger the door handle; and the glass move up and down about 1 inch when moved by hand. My guess is that the regulator tubing has stretched. A post on rennlist suggested inserting a bicycle brake line spacer-I will try that first before installing a new regulator.
