Engine cradle
I am looking to pull the engine from my 997tt. Is there a jack adapter or cradle sold to help bring engine down in a stable/safe fashion?
I see them for the early 911s but nothing for my car. Anyone source on before? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I use a 1k tranny jack with a board. I remove the engine and trans at the same time. I strap the assembly to the jack around the bell housing area.

I have just finished the job of lowering the engine/gearbox combination out of my new (to me) 997. Like you I searched for a suitable engine cradle for this car and finding none, decided to make one.
In short I used the adapter for the 911 3.0 litre engines in conjunction with good marine plywood braced with 2.0cm square tubing together with strategically placed uprights to produce a stable platform. I was somewhat lucky in my placement of the adapter as it proved to be in a near perfect balance position. There was no need to put anything under the gear box during the drop as the whole lot came down in a near horizontal situation. There was quite a bit of trial and error involved in making the platform but the time proved to be time well spent as there was never a hint of instability during the drop. The photo's tell the story. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

This is my 15$ hardware store version. Worked like charm and took 15 minutes to build.
All you need is a regular 2ton jack with top plate removed. 2x6 is bolted to it through a two metal plates working like a sandwich. 2 more 2x6 transversally screwed with some rubber pad nailed to it. Used regular scissor type jack and one more jack stand under the transmission. The whole thing can be put on jack stands and the jack can then be removed from underneath in case you need that same jack to lift the car higher. ![]()
