Battery

I have a friend that has a 2002 996 that needs a battery and wants to replace it with a porsche battery. It has a american battery now . What is the battery that Porsche installed at the factory(the name) so I can buy that battery. Also what would I need to make sure that when I removed the battery to replace it, how would I not lose all the codes on the car .
Thanks

If you want an original style battery go to the dealer.
As far as codes go, you may need to plug a booster into the cigarette lighter as a back feed into the system while the battery is replaced.
BTW, if you ever need the code, give the dealer the VIN and they should give you the correct code. Do it while you're on the phone, as there may be more that one that was used by the factory.

Why a Porsche battery? I had an Interstate in my 930 and replaced it 2 month ago with an AGM. That Interstate was 8 years old. Last month I replaced my 4 year old Porsche battery in my 987 with an AGM. My 996tt has an Interstate in it right now and is about 3 years old. When it dies, I'll go with an AGM, too.

Any reasonable battery is fine. Any codes lost will recover after a brief drive.

Do you even know the special codes that go with your car? They are very VIN specific. If they don't recover, let your certified Porsche dealer put them back in for you.

What year? 2002 on store radio codes in the ecu/dme so unless one changes the radio no codes need to be reloaded. Throttle reset, ignition on 60 seconds no touch pedal, off for 60 seconds done. Window retrain, down hold 15 seconds, up hold same done.

Is this procedure still the same for a 2013 Boxster ? I have a guy telling me that only an authorized Porsche battery can be installed, and that it needs to be ''registered'' to the car or it won't work. I told him it just needed to be back fed, but he says no.
