Front license plate bracket
Just purched 2001 996 turbo. My state requires a front license plate. I already have 2 square holes in the bumper. Seems very difficult to access behind the bumper. Do i need to remove the front bumper just to mount a front license plate bracket?? Any feedback will be greatly appreciated

In my experience, the expanding nut does not work THAT well--but you just screw it in from the front--no removing of bumper cover. I lost my plate somewhere during a major downpour (hit a puddle) here in CA. I bought a whole new setup and new plates, but the plate can still be pulled off pretty easy. I just keep it in the frunk and hope I don't get a ticket--can't justify $30+ for the bumper plugs though, either--but I hate the front plate.

Look at the pieces listed on the Pelican page.
LOOK AT THIS PAGE ON PELICAN, http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/ksearch/pel_search_2016.cgi?command=show_part_page&please_wait=NG&make=POR&model=927§ion=BDYEXT&page=3&bookmark=8&part_number=PEL-996-BRACKET TWO SPACERS, LEFT AND RIGHT, TWO SQUARE LOCKING NUTS. ON THIS PAGE LISTED BELOW http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/ksearch/pel_search_2016.cgi?command=show_part_page&please_wait=NG&make=POR&model=927§ion=BDYEXT&page=3&bookmark=8&part_number=PEL-996-BRACKET LOOK AT THE PAGE REFERENCED ABOVE. Everything mounts from the front. My C2 holes were enlarged by a PO so I used these plastic Twist Lock anchors with the stock spacers and plate mount. Never came off. http://www.homedepot.com/p/E-Z-Ancor-Twist-N-Lock-75-lb-8-x-1-1-4-in-Philips-Zinc-Plated-Nylon-Flat-Head-Drywall-Anchors-with-Screws-4-Pack-11364/100165900

Get a license mount that used the tow hook mount.

NY requires it too. I haven't run a front plate for two years. Haven't been stopped yet. I keep the plate in the frunk. If I ever get stopped, will tell officer just had front bumper painted and picked car up at the shop. Going to mount plate when I get home. May not work, but sticking it on the front of the car looks like ass. Worst case, get the bracket that installs in the tow hook adapter.

I would order a set of bumper plugs in your body color and then pick up a tow hook plate holder. Don't know if Pelican sells them.

Generally, I am impressed with the engineering thoroughness done by Porsche. The design of the factory front bumper plate holder, however, is a complete failure in my opinion. I bought my 2003 C2 from a previous owner in California where it had no front license plate. When I brought it back to Colorado, I needed to put a front plate on in order not to be harassed for not having one. I bought and installed the OE Porsche front plate mount (using larger screws to better secure it). What a disaster! A simple nudge on it while opening the frunk would cause it to fall off. I have struggled with this for the last 8 years, even trying JB Weld to keep it from falling off.
I looked at getting one of the tow hook systems, but I don't like the off-center look that results. I just installed the Skene Design "no holes" front bracket. Simple, and all seems well now. (https://skenebrackets.com)

Thanks for the advise. I dont actually see my car listed on their site? Maybe i will just have to measure the bumper as they suggest, or possibly the 997 turbo might fit?? I will contact them. Thanks again

88carrera. Would you possibly be so kind to post a pic of your license plate attached, or just the mounting bracket. Did you purchase the short bracket?? Looks very straight forward. Thanks again

There are a couple of companies that make "disappearing" front license plate systems, which retract the plate under the front of the car when you don't need it:

Hi Wilbo, Yes, here are a couple of shots of my front mount, one from the side and one from the bottom. I got the "extra short" bracket.
I am happy with this bracket. It has seen 90 mph with no problem. ![]() Good luck! ![]()
