engine drop gtg
Fellow Houston area PelicanHeads,
My 78SC race car needs a new clutch so the engine and tranny have to come out. The garage is cleaned up and ready for people and parts. The race car will be set up and preped for the drop. If anyone is interested in participating, post something here. The engine drop will be Nov. 8th or 9th (Saturday or Sunday). Target ready-to-race date is 2/2/09. engine drop - Nov. 8th or 9th clutch replacement - Thanksgiving weekend re-install engine - ? CT

Is that just a bit north of the Galleria area? I have only lived here two years so I am still learning.

I can get to the galleria in about 10-15 minutes from my house. It's about 10 minutes north of the 610/290 intersection. I can PM you the directions.
Pazuzu, I hope you can make it. It's still up in the air about Saturday or Sunday.

Any more plans on this? I can't make it if it's on Sunday, but Saturday should be a go.

Let's all plan on 9AM Saturday morning. It looks like the weather will be cold, but sunny. Hot coffee and kolachies will be ready. I'm going to get a furniture dolly and larger jack stands this week. I'm still trying to think how to use my standard jack to lift the rear of the car. Any ideas?

I can bring my cheap basic floor jack and jackpad, and we can jack from both sides at once. I haven't yet jacked the front or back of my car up yet, only side to side, so I cannot comment on any of the tricks that everyone else uses (jack from the sump plate, etc).

I used the furniture dolly method myself. 3x2' plywood on 4x4"s on top of the dolly. Two floor jacks to lift and lower the sides. Resting on jackstands on the TB covers as needed. I just finished this so you are welcome to borrow the dolly and wood. I also have an extra jack plate if you need it. It all worked great for me as I did it myself. I just can't get comfortable balancing the engine on any single jack. Ken

I posted directions to my house at this site:
http://www.razorracer.com/FatBottomGirls.html Also, I am purchasing a furniture dolly and 25" jack stands today. I want to have all of the equipment needed to drop / install an engine. Please bring your stuff, too, but it may not be needed. I need to get proficient at dropping the engine because I hear it's easier to adjust the valves that way. See you at 9AM - noon at my house.

It was great meeting the folks I haven't met and seeing the ones I have.
Craig, let me know if you need me to bring a pressure washer by.

many thanks
Thanks to all that helped drop my engine. The weather was perfect and the company was great. Alan would like to get everyone's e-mail for pictures, so please send him your e-mail. He already sent my favorite picture of me standing inside of my engine bay. I forgot to get the picture the last time we dropped the engine. A special thanks to 125shifter and Pazuzu for the great conversation after the engine drop.
