Rescued MK1 Cabriolet

Hey all. Rescued a 1987 Cabriolet MK1.
Sat for a while on a friends property and was sadly neglected.
Going to need a lot of work but will be a nice little running and driving car once done.
Needs a lot of interior parts annoyingly. since the person who had it before my friend decided to rip it all out to try and make a Race Car out of a Cabriolet LOL.
So far I have replaced all the fuses, some hoses, Headlights, made my own tail lights for fun, recreated the whole harness that runs the Rear lights, Fuel pumps and defroster elements. *The whole harness was cut out of the car*
My daughter helped me with a lot of cleaning and she also helped with removing the Cam cover and belt cover for Paint. She is 4 years old and has been doing a great job. I have been going over a few ideas for engine mods and the like. Planning on Setting up the 8V to run a Turbocharger. Looking forward to getting it all done.
Video 1: Introduction

Video 2: First Polish

Video 3: Paint Choices for engine

Video 4: Harness and Lights.

Hope you all enjoy.\Fixed the double Video Link. sorry about that.

I pulled the stock muffler out it was making a lot of bad noises. Come to find out it was stuffed full of rocks and rat nest.
I replaced it with a 2.5" Resonator.

Still need to finish off the welding and then paint it

Exhaust is done

Finished the exhaust off. It turned out nice. Next I am doing all the belts.

Used the original hangers from the stock ruined muffler.

Progress ^_^

We got some good stuff done lately. Cabriolet is now sitting on Bilstein shocks and struts with H&R Lowered springs. Huge difference in ride and handling.
The AN conversion fuel system is nice too. no Leaks at all.

Next will be working on the Body a bit more and stress bars for the upper and lower sections.

Twin coolant fans done. Much nicer then the single fan and quiet.

Also Started doing all the sound deadening as well.

Been a little while

Hey all. Been a little while since I posted up on my little Cabriolet.
Got some good stuff done.
Completely rebuilt the Cylinder head with a 7mm stem kit from techtuning
Installed ARP head studs and a Cometic Headgasket.
Also designed a throttle body adapter plate to get a better throttle body on the stock intake manifold. Turned our pretty good for just having basic drills and hole saws.
Got my MS2 harness all labelled and once the engine is back together I can finish it all off.

I will post more pictures tomorrow.

Great job, looks like it’s coming along. I had one when I was in Germany in the late 80’s fun cars!

Thanks man. Will be a really fun little car. Also my Kiddos been having fun with me too. I drove her around for a little. Then the history of being park showed up with a messed up headgasket. Biggest reason going all out and Turbo with a Cometic Headgasket and head studs

Update

Made some more progress on the Cabriolet. With my Oldest Daughters help of course lol.
Worked on the Downpipe for Turbo. Then ran into a problem with the Gear shift linkage hitting the pipe and could not get 2nd or 4th gear. so had to start over.
Ran all the boost piping and intercooler is really close to the placement we need. Next I need to clamp it all up and run a pressure test on it all.

Idea for Intake for Turbo. Still rough placement. I do not have much room on the passenger side.

Piping

Wow! Great work! I'm glad to see your pit crew understands the need for good axle stand placement

Seeing your starting point, I feel like a wuss for being intimidated getting started on a new-to-me '89 with some cowl rust and a couple of dings in the hood and the driver's door.

Best

5x112 Conversion Parts

Got my 5x112 conversion parts for the rears. I will be getting the fronts this weekend. I am tossing it up between B5.5 Passat front brakes or B5 S4 front brakes. Will see what is more logical to fit
I had the Passat front hubs lathed down to fit the MK1 bearings.did not loose much material. About 4.2mm.
