Whilst driving, my 320i beeps 3 times. There are no warning lights on the dash and there seems to be no particular speed, gear, time, revs. It gets the same response from everyone that travels in the car..... "WHAT IS THAT??????!!!!!!!!"
Someone help me before i go insane.

Look at the "information center" computer/control gizmo in the center stack when it happens. It is probably telling you that the temps are 38 degrees, which BMW wants you to know is when they think black ice can form. Or something equally cheesy. I don't know of any way to turn it off (yet).
Do a search on this BBS, the problem has been discussed before. --DD

Those three beeps you are hearing is the memo signal that works with the clock. You can set it to go off at any time, or if there is no time set for it, then it beeps 15 seconds before every hour. To turn it off just press the memo key.

Thanks for suggestions. I shall check these ideas. Don't think temp will be that low, I'm in Australia. Might be something similar though. It's no particular time, so i don't think the clock is the problem, but i'll have a play with that as well.

OK.... So after changing the light behind the clock (way overdue repair) I discovered that the memo was the problem. I couldn't see that it was turned on.
Thanks to Dave & Kingnine for the help. Is it my imagination or did USA not get the e36 320i. |

I don't think it's your imagination.
Actually, I mis-read the title initially as "325i". I was simply assuming a US car, sorry! Glad to hear you found the souce of the trouble. --DD

I have heard that they sometimes beep at the top of the hour to inform the driver to listen to the radio for weather.

How do you setup the "memo" feature? Is it something automatic or do you have some control?

Memo is just the series of beeps that you can set to go off at any time. By depressing the 'memo' button, you are given a screen to set a particualr time. Once you set whatever time you want, the feature is set & the beeps will sound 15 seconds prior to that pre-set time.
