I Need info on SRS steering wheel removal

My 1996 328IC has the SRS steering column. I am hearing some squeeking on rotation and occasional noises that sound like broken plastic right behind the wheel. Everything works fine but it is annoying. Can anyone tell me what the proper procedures are for removing the airbag and wheel so I can inspect the inside of the column?

I for one would not attempt to remove this unless you are trained I have seen these things go off if you look at them wrong! So please excersise some extreme caution if contemplating this! TAKE IT TO A PRO IF YOUR A NOVICE ON THESE THINGS.

I agree with Javier on this one. Don't try to remove the wheel. Take it to the dealer to have the airbag disarmed. Keep in mind that there is a pryotechnic charge that detonates the airbag. I've seen them accidentally go off as well, and it is expensive to replace.

I've heard the airbags referred to as "a shotgun shell with no pellets". Yipe!! I've also heard stories of people having to replace half their interior, their windshield, etc., from accidentally setting off the airbag. --DD
