Question E36 Auto Trans problem

My 1995 320 auto sedan with high kms had been sitting for c.2 yrs. On first drive, abt 12kms round trip) it became hard to select gears, then went into limp mode. I made it home. I hooked up another battery and the trans warning light went off, but car was still hard to select gear. I reversed the car, (it struggled) and when I tried to select Drive there was nothing. Reverse nothing. Any gear, car will only rev but not move. It will also not go into park, although hard to select gear symptom has gone. HELP!!!!!! ANYONE!!!!! AaaaaHH!

So the shifter was difficult to move but now moves easily? Is it possible something in the gear selector linkage broke? Additionally can you see any oil spots under the car? If the transmission is low on ATF it will have difficultly engaging in any gear. Check out our E36 Tech articles for common failure points.
