I've got a 94 325i, automatic, with 102k on the clock. Recently I started hearing a grinding type noise and feel vibration from under the car when turning at low speeds or from a stop. More specifically it sounds like I'm driving over a rumble strip on the highway. The sound appears to be coming from around the transmission area. I checked fluid levels in the trans. and all seems well, no burnt smell or dark color.

The car runs and drives fine otherwise. Any ideas? Thanks, Steve |

Check the drive shaft ie, the guibo or center support, the guibo is that big rubber thing that connects the shaft to the trans....

I second javier, check the center support. Sounds like it's on the way out.

Power steering leak? Our cars are known to leak power steering fluid.

I read that it shouldnt be too hard to replace the clamps on the hoses. That is whats causing the leaking. Mine leaks really really slow, so i havent addressed it yet.

			Hello all,

I found the source of my problem. The exhaust mount at the cat had been bent just enough to cause contact with the body when turning. I now recall having driven over one of those 'speed mountains' they put in these days in parking lots, and hearing a scraping noise; I bet it happened then. My driveshaft and 'donut' appear to be fine. Thanks for all the suggestions! Steve
