91 318is running rich, rough idle
I just bought a 91 318is with 85k miles. The car was running great when all of the sudden after filling it up with fuel it seemed to have lost a cylinder. Here's what I've done. If you have any ideas please let me know.
- all cylinders have 180psi - new factory plugs installed - new afm installed - computer gave a code 29 - air flow meter - car runs but runs rich Do you guys think my fuel pressure regulator has gone out?

I've also put a new fuel filter on it and replaced all iac hoses.

Yeah, I did a resistance check on each one, and the resistance on all were the same. I pulled the plugs and put them on the valve cover and they were all firing.

Ok, the code says AFm, did you replace the AFM before or after you got the code?

Hmm,...
Have you confirmed that the car indeed is no9t running on one cylinder? If the car is running rich, i would be inclined to check operation of the O2 sensor. It is wquite possible that it may be malfuctioning. I wouldnt suspect the fuel pressure regulator just yet. |

I didn't suspect the o2 sensor as I didn't get an o2 sensor code, just the afm sensor. I'll read up on how to test it and see if it's gone south, I thought that the car would just get poor gas mileage, not act like it's lost a cylinder. It runs rough, and sure does seem to have lost a cylinder. When I pull the plugs they are all wet, not moist, doused in gas.

So basically it is either a fuel or ignition problem. Have you checked that the position sensor on the front of the engine is connected?

yes it's connected. How do you suggest checking to see if it's running on all cylinders? I may have a plug wire jumping

Since I put new plugs in I pulled them to see what they looked like. cylinder 4 was still new, it hadn't fired. To determine if the coil for #4 was bad I swapped it with #3 and #4's plug then fired, plug was dirty. So I've got a bad plug wire for #4. I'm going out there to rig a wire to see if I can get them all to fire. I'll be ordering a set of wires from you guys. Do you recommend the bosch or pvl? Are the pvl's the correct length? That drives me crazy when I've got extra plug wire. THANKS AGAIN!

Go with OEM wires. That would be Bosch.
