Hey, im looking to buy a new chip for my 1992 325i (90K) 5-speed. I need to know between the Dinan, Autothority, and Conforti, which one is the best overall that contains both better performance with 91+ octane and has better emissions/economy.
Thanks a lot guys. Oh yeah, by the way, when Im in 1st gear, sometimes i hear a cranking sound when I release the clutch and step on the gas. Does anyone know what could the problem be with this? Thanks a lot, Mike

Ok, here's what I've heard regarding chips. If you live out in California, supposedly the Dinan one is better because it is programmed for 91 octane (the highest we get). The others are made with 93 octane gas in mind. I would also look into Active Autowerkes, they make nice chips.
If you are planning on doing other mods, such as exhaust, cams, or intake, it is best to do them first and THEN get in touch with the chip maker and see if they can custom burn a chip for your setup.

I've found that the Dinan chip in my car seems to make the car run a little more peppy when i run octane boost such as Outlaw 104. I've been maening to throw some race fuel in there one of these days to see what the results wouold be.

...Hey Jared is it safe to run race fuel instead of 93 or so octane gasoline? Are there any drawbacks?

You should be fine as long as the race fuel is unleaded. The lead compounds will poison the catalytic converter and the oxygen sensor, which can result in various Bad Things happening to the way the car runs.
Note that Aviation "110 Low-lead" is only low in lead content relative to the old leaded AvGas. I believe that it has more lead in it than old leaded automotive gasoline used to!! --DD
