Blown Instrument Panel Fuse

As I explained one more time, my instrument panel fuse keeps blowing after about 30 Minutes of driving. When this happens the high beam comes on and stays on even when the lights are off. At the same time the fan stops working.

Now if I turn the engine off and on the fan comes on for about 2 seconds and goes off again. Based on that I am suspecting the relay for the fan ( If there is one) or a short in the fan system.

My question is that if this is so where is the relay for the fan and how can I test the fan system for a short?

My car is a 88 325 with 225000 miles. I appreciate any help.

Thank You in advance.

No. I did the SI board battery removal and extending it to outside of the panel according to your instructions. But that was about 4 months ago and this problem just started a couple of weeks ago.

I dont think that would be realted to the instrument lights, however i would check to see that the relay is plugged in and check the terminal posts. m,ake sure they are clean.

After extensive searching I found the cause of the short. It is the 2 wires coming from (I beleive) the transmission through the rubber piece around the gear shift handle. The wires themself are clean. They have no cracks or broken parts. But after I unpluged it the problem was solved.

My question is what are these wires for and is this possibly the cause of my reverse lights not working.

Let me ask a question. I had my transmission swaped from automatic to stick about 3 years ago. Underneat the transmission where the cable connects to the transmission. Is that connector the same in both auto and manual transmission. Because now that I think about it around when this problem started; my car was on the hoist and I noticed the wire hanging and my mechanic told me that it is my reverse light cable and he pluged it in. Ofcourse the reverse lights don't still work and this problem started.

And second question why does the short happen after about 30 minutes of driving (I suspect it has to do with parts getting warm) because if the connector or the wire was causing the problem it would happen immediately when the car was turned on.

thanks for all the help

It's possible that the switches may be different from the auto and manual. Can you get a part number off the switch? I'll see if I can find out any info on it. Javier? You around? Maybe you have some additional info?
