Proper way to ship wheels?

Well, even though I've only had my contours for a couple of weeks, I've come across a deal too good to pass up. A guy really wants my wheels and tires, so I'll be shipping them out to him in Houston, TX. I've never shipped wheels before, I was wondering if someone could shed some light on how to do it. Where do I go to get good strong boxes? Do I just wrap it in bubble wrap? ANy tips or suggestions on how to prevent the wheel from getting damaged?

Also, should I deflate the tires so shippin will be cheaper? I'm thinking on going through fedex for shipping, does anyone know a cheaper place? Thanks for your help.

I would go to a shipping store. They can tell you how to ship and with who for the cheapest price. All the wheels I've been shipped had cardboard layed over the face and back and shrink wrap all around. They turned out great. I would send them inflated, that way your buyer knows there is no problem with the tires.

inflated, deflated, they'd weigh the same. Although I'd inflate to allow a nice cushion against the wheel in case they're dropped (which they will be!)

I have shipped wheels in the past and I merely covered the front of the wheel with cardboard and bubble wrap. I then covered the whole wheel in shrink wrap.

Oh really? You didn't put it in any type of box? Did your buyers ever complain about the wheels being poorly packaged? Do you have any pictures maybe so I can get a better understanding of it? The guy paid a lot for my rims and tires, I don't want him to feel let down when he receives them. Thanks for all your help guys.

Jared's description is how I have recieved wheels with tires mounted. The wheels I had polished and with tires made the trip from LA to Canada in great shape. (Al Reed Polishing packaged and shipped them UPS) max

Max, thanks for confirming it. It seems as if Jared's method is the standard way. Tirerack gives you instructions on how to send wheels and tires back to them.
