One Touch Window Switch
I was wondering about the window switch that controls the electric sunroof on a 328is ('97). This particular switch does not work in a 'one touch' capacity, & I'm not sure if that is by design or if it is broken. I know that Volvo does not make the sunroof switch as a 'one touch' for a safety feature. Now if BMW has the same thing (which I'm assuming), is it feasible to replace that non-one touch switch (white connector) with a one-touch switch (green connector). I guess I'm wondering if the sunroof wiring is applicable with a one-touch switch.

hmm.. here's something i was thinking of doing for a E30. I imagine that you would first have to rig up a relay that would provide power for a certian amount of time and shut off at a preset ocation on the motor drive. i dont hink it would be too difficult to rig up though.

After I posted this, I thought:
Maybe I could just remove one of my one touch switches (from the windows), & see if it'll work on the sunroof. If it does, I know it'll work. See I want to acheive the 'one touch' control on the sunroof as well as the windows.

My 97 328i has one touch open of the sunroof (both vent and complete opening) and all windows, plus one touch close of the driver and passenger front windows. It sounds like something may be broken, because it wouldn't make sense if the parts were different between the coupe and sedan. Try comparing the part numbers of the window and sunroof switches. They may be the same, which means that there is something wrong with the sunroof's one touch sysytem.

Lemme clarify, the sunroof has one touch ability on open, but not on close, such as the windows do. That's what made me think there may be a safety issue involved in case someone had their head stickin out the sunroof when the one touch was accidentally engaged. However, I'm not a moron & wouldn't do that, so I wanted a one touch close on my sunroof.

If your "one-touch" is not working in the open phase, then most likely you need to have the dealer hook it up to the DIS and program the feature. It all depends on the system as well. The million dollar question of the day would be "did the feature work before?". If you want to give me your VIN and production date, I will check to see if the feature is even available to program. Simply plugging in a "one touch" switch will not work, so save yourself the $$. This is a crude way to test, but press the sunroof switch open and feel for the "catch". When you use the one touch feature on your windows, you should be able to feel the slight catch near the end of full travel. This right at full travel of the switch. What's happening is that you are actually activating another switch inside the switch for the one touch feature. Make sense? If you can feel this then most likely you just need the feature programmed.
