How do you know the pads are good? The pads have a sensor in there that is tripped to the pad warning light when they are worn below a certain level. It might just be a coincidence that it happened around the same time you put on the new tires. Have your pads checked out, you don't have much life left after that warning light comes on.

I'm learning from experience right now on pads. I had some harder metal compound Raybestos pads put on, to reduce the brake dust on my rims & lengthen the life of my pads. Bad call in my opinion. Although the brake dust is at a minimum, the suckers squeak like a pig that just got shot in the ass. The other think is, the harder pads will last longer, but they wear the rotors faster. I think if you had to choose what you'd want to last longer, it'd always be the rotors. Anyway, I'm moving to ceramic pads which are softer & quieter. I don't think you have to go to a BMW dealership to have this work done, but definitely go to place that works on German cars & uses OEM parts. I wouldn't suggest the Midas, Car X, Merlin's route.

BMW Roundel

I called a shop who deals in German cars, said he would sell me a set for 75 front / 70 rear . that is CDN funds. says they are pretty straight forward to put on .
The roters look in good shape.. no marks or ridges.
I have to say that this car is worth this little trouble...It is the best ride I have been in. Should have got one sooner.

What model & year do you have?

Yah, I know how you feel about the ultimate driving machine. This is the first one I've had also, & even after a couple years, it's still just as much fun as it was that Memorial Day afternoon I picked it up. I knew after a week I would never own anything other than a BMW again! Hell, I'd rather drive this one until it falls apart around me, than go into a new anything else.

I have a 97 328is, Montreal Blue/ tan, Auto. It was somthing that i always wanted, and i will agree....I will never drive anything else again.
My friend owns Harleys, and he kept saying ..." you have to own one to understand " well now I feel the same way about the beemer.
I am enjoying this forum, there is some interesting things on here. Have you used this " Leatherique " that i have heard about? Is it realy that good ?
Is that your car 97 blkack on black ? sounds pretty sweet.
Were is the best place to get good floor mats?
What type of wax/ polish do you use?

Well, we have the same model. Mine is a 5 spd though, & I have the sport package with lowered suspension & sport seats. I've always liked that Montreal Blue, but I prefer black leather cause you don't see so much wear. I had a Volvo 760 Intercooler Turbo before this with a Midnight Blue exterior & tan leather, & that color leather just takes a beating after a while. I haven’t used that "Leatherique" cause frankly, my interior is pretty mint. I did find great floor mats though from BMP design. They have this 'snap lock' retainer that keeps them attached to the floor carpet. They are pretty nice mats, set of (4) cost $100. Here's a link.

I use Mother's carnuba wax on my finish. I don't know if it's the 'quote unquote' best stuff out there, but I think it does a really nice job. It's not too expensive either, like $6 a bottle. You should get a California Water Blade to remove the water off your car after washing. It's got this non-abrasive silicone T-Blade that gets like 95% of the water off in a few minutes. You can get them online from like Bavarian Auto Parts for $20, but I found it at Target for $15 & didn't have to pay for delivery. Here's what that looks like.

And a Bavarian Auto link.

I dunno what kinda modification (if any) you wanna do, but the folks on this board really rock when it comes to info. When I first got mine I wanted to keep it all stock. Then little by little, I'd get this bug to make nice tasteful modifications. An intake system (to replace the stock air box) is a very nice addition. You pick up HP, give the engine a meaner sound, & it looks pretty cool under the hood. Aww, you'll have time for all that, just enjoy right now.

I second the water blade for drying the car. Works really well and takes practically no time to dry the car at all. I've also always used Mother's products to wax with pretty incredible results. I've taken oxidized paint back to shine with that stuff.

As for the pads, I reccommend using either Ate or Pagid. They are the OEM pads for the car and have a good compromise between quality and dust. You can get them trough Pelican as well.

my personal and professional opinion on the brake pad situation: use the factory style pads (OE recomended). They're recomended for a reason.

Thanx for the info on the mats ! They are just what I am looking for. Ya I had the same conversation with some guy who thought his " Hyundi Tiberion " was better, because it was newer. That was untill I took him for a ride...Does not say too much anymore !
Hyundi ! how could you evan think they are in the same class!!!

Was the wire broken because something had hit it? Or because the pads had worn down to the point where they chewed through it? The latter is what the sensor is for--when the brakes eat through the wire, it's time for new pads.
