My rear end makes a funny noise

A new issue with my dear 325es...

The other night, I noticed a humming/groaning sound which seems to be coming from the rear end of the car. It starts when the car reaches about 25mph, and gets higher in pitch as the car speeds up (pitch goes back down as the car slows down). My first thought was that it was something with the tires, but I've checked them out and while they're not brand spankin' new, there also not totally shot -- no belts showing, properly inflated, no noticable "bad spots." I went ahead and rotated them, but the noise is still there. I'm thinking wheel bearings...any other ideas?

Cheers,

FastAggie

I concour, sounds like wheel bearings. I have a tech article that goes over how to replace these, however you will need to get a hold of a press to actually remove the bearings from the hub.

The first flatulence joke! Took longer than I expected.

I learned after my window saga that I have to make my post titles interesting, or no one will read them. Nobody responded to my requests for help with power windows until I changed the title to "VA Woman Cooks Alive in 325es." Hence, my current "noisy rear end" title.

Anyway...thanks for the info, Jared. Unfortunately, I don't have the space, the gear, or the time to do the work myself this time, so I dropped 'er off at the shop this morning.

Cheers,

FastAggie

Can you send me that article, just so I can see how it's done?

Gee, I was thinking more of "Ba-boom, Ba-boom, Ba-boom" I guess I've finally reached dirty old man status.

ROFL

You're crazy!

Just to update...the car's been fixed. Also went ahead and put new brake pads in (mine were shot -- gotta stop ridin' the brakes like an old lady). My rear end is now back to normal.
