BMW Roundel Whose ignition coils do you like?

Without selling my soul to spring for Plasma coils for my 325i, who do you like for general replacement ignition coils? Bosch? Bremi? Karlyn/STI?

Are there pros and cons to any of the above mentioned brands over another?

Thanks,
David

All were OE suppliers to BMW at one time or another. It's been my experience that none of them are better than the other.

No problem.. My best advice is to simply replace the unit with a new unit from the same manufacturer.

i.e. You have a Bosch coil, replace it with the same..

You say to replace "the unit with a new unit." I have heard that with coils, if you have to replace one, you should replace all of them.

When you wrote "the unit" in the singular (and not the plural), do you infer that one unit can be replaced if from the same manufacturer? If so, are the various comments with respect to replacing all the coils driven by savy marketing?

Well there is talk of having to replace them all at the same time, however, MY opinion is that if the coil resistance is the same on the new coil as opposed to the old ones, you really shouldnt have any problems. Of course thats just me..

You can actually find new Ignition Solutions plasma coils on Ebay for ~$100 more than new OEM coils. I actually bought from the Ebay guy for my 540i about a month ago and I'm very happy w/the results.

(Please note I'm not affiliated w/the company or the Ebay guy)

I have to say that I DO NOT reccommend running anything other than OE coils unless you are a experienced tuner or know how to really work the Motronic sytem to take full advantage of any aftermarket stuff.

I honestly dont believe that uprgading the coils is going to do anything on this car anyway. The stock Motronic is about the best there is.
