Are you asking about installing a cold air intake (CAI) system and where to relocate the temperature sensor that is currently bolted to the stock air box (for E36s through '95)?
If that is your question, it depends whose CAI system you have. Some systems have you mount it to the heat shield itself while others have a mounting location on the intake tube. In any event (presuming we are talking about a '95 or older E36) as long as the sensor is reading the temperature anywhere INSIDE the shielded compartment (i.e., the cold air), you should be fine. If the above is NOT what you were asking, you may want to elaborate - or translate. Last edited by Ad Hoc; 04-04-2004 at 01:47 PM.. |

First, there will always be differing opinions as to which CAI system is better based on many variables (e.g., appearance, ease of installation, dino results). Performance-wise, from the dino results I have seen, most CAI systems are equal. If others reply to this post, you will most likely get many different suggestions.
Personally, I use the CAI from East Coast Induction Systems (ECIS). I liked their setup and am friendly with the owner, Kenny (my office is 20 minutes from his). If you check their site below, take a look at the installation instruction for photos and descriptions for the E36 setup: http://www.ecisbmw.com/product_files/intakes/intakes.htm Note, however, that you will need to inquire from anyone you choose for your CAI system as to your specific model (the 320i). Nevertheless, in the ECIS system fro my '93 325i, the temperature sensor bolts onto a pre-cut hole in the heat shield, allowing the sensor to read the temperature inside the shielded area. My only advice as to any CAI is make sure you use a heat shield. Some suppliers sell (and some E36 owners install) just the intake tube and cone filter. If you don't shield the intake from engine heat, you sort of defeat the benefit of using cooler air. Good luck. |
