Exploding pulse sensor

Has anyone suffered from this? The first time the pin on the flywheel came off and destroyed the pulse/reference sensor, now a counterweight from the new clutch came off and broke it again... At $96 a sensor it's not funny. The thing is that the drivetrain, tranny and motor are in very good shape, not jumping or out of balance. Can de sensor be mounted on another location were it won't be hit by flying debris?

There is nowhere else you can mount it. It has to be there otherwise the car wont run. You need the sensor mounted near the flywheel in order to control the fuel and ignition curves of the engine. The teeth of the flywheel act as reference marks.
