Alternator output

I have an 86 E30es... Does anyone know the output of the alternator? What about total draw of other components?

As you may guess, I am in the process of installing an 800w amp, and while some have told me that my alternator should be fine, others have suggested otherwise.

Has anyone purchased an "upgraded" alternator before? From who? Comments?

Final question... does anyone know reasonable acurately what route the power cable takes from the alternator to the battery. I was toying with the idea of replacing it, for asthetic reasons at the battery.

I run a 1000w amp in my car with the stock alternator, no problems...

I wouldnt bother with the battery cables, personally..
