first post - looking for help
Hi everyone. I just purchased a 1987 325is which is in great condition. It is actually the second time I bought this car as I sold it 9 years ago and as luck would have it it has been babied ever since. Anyway it runs great but the radio is not working. The stations tune in but no sound. I haven't looked into it much yet as I only got it back on Tuesday but was wondering if there was something simple I should look for before I go at the wiring.
Thanks for any help. |

Is it the factory stereo? If so, is it the base model or premium sound system?

Youre probably better off tossing it and buying a modern stereo...

While we're on the subject of stereos, does anyone know what kind of signal the stereo sends to the antenna motor to tell it when to be up or down? A constant 12v when it should be up? Maybe a single toggle pulse to tell to change positions? I'm sure I can figure it out with experiment, but I'd rather know what to expect before I start taking things apart and applying voltage.
Thanks. David

The relay on the antenna motor is supplied with constant power, ground, and trigger from the head unit. The trigger is 12 volt, low amperage. When 12 volts are present the antenna goes up and stays up. When it is removed, the antenna goes down and stays down.
