Whining noise, rpm related???

My ti recently began making this humming or whining noise. Not sure where its coming from but here goes with the symptoms: rpm related, in nuetral clutch out or in, not moving, the noise is consistant, initial diagnonses is the timing chain tensioner. Im skilled in mechanics owning an import performance shop and ive owned the car for six years now but this noise is new and sounds damaging!! Anyone else had the same noise? or maybe someone can shed some light on timing chain tensioner noise. I know how to replace it but was wondering if that could be it or is one of the acc. belt tensioners?????? It is supercharged but the blower is currently off for inspection purposes and i need to fix before i reinstall it.... dieng without it help me...........

Could be the chain tensioner.....if its coming from that area......take off the belts & see if the noise goes away ~

Need more info... You said RPM related but not how?

I neutral when you chage RPM's how does the noise change? How does the noise while driving?

I had a rpm related noise on an E46 and it was just old belts. It was loud at idle in gear but not in park or neutral. Sounded just like crickets chirping at night. Wierd...

Let's not be rude.

Your details so far that you have a noise. Thats about it.

I asked a couple of specific prompting questions and you ignored them.

Give more details or no more FREE advice.

Thanks Jeron. MDFAuto, if you want to bash those trying to help, why don't you go to DTM Power's forum or some other kiddie site. This forum is by adults for adults, where the only stupid question is the one not asked.

OK, you’ve now become officially redundant and truthfully I’m bored. I won’t bother explaining the vacuum comment, but why do you assume the 325i is my only car?

In any event, I leave you with this. You came to this Forum seeking answers to your questions. When you did not receive the responses you were looking for precisely in the manner you wanted them spoon-fed to you, you had a cyber-tantrum like a toddler that didn’t get its way.

I wish you luck with your “rpm” question. I only hope that the magnanimity that you will most likely receive from the respectful Members and Moderators that make up this community are not met with another sanctimonious tantrum.

Good luck.

BTW, send me an e-mail – we’ll do lunch.

Ouch!->|m stayn out of this one....but one thing i 4got to add wz that usually the chain tensioner doesnt make a whining noise & usually doesnt sound real damaging.....U didnt mention the year but the earlier
models would stretch the chain....I put a head on one that had over heated xtremely bad >against our wishes< and it made a real loud humming sound that turned out that the timing chain rails had melted

If I'm not a member of the NY bar then will you PLEASE tell them to stop sending me weekly legal updates and requests for registration fees? Thanks. It would mean a lot. Also, never married, but thanks for the vote of confidence. In addition, with all my debt, youd think they'd stop offering to let me borrow at every turn - oh well, you know bankers.

To answer your question, got the 325i after leaving the Army Rangers (A Company, 1st BTN). Went to law school to join the Judge Advocate General's Office but got a better offer after graduation. The 325i stays out at my other place on the East End of the Island so I can tinker with it. Why would I ever feel the need to discuss an '04 Lexus I lease on this site? I have more fun with the BMW anyway.

I'm serious when I mean good luck with your question. The people here are good, knowledgable and passionate about their cars. My only point has always been we all try to help each other in this Forum - why did you feel the need to put those down that were just trying to answer your question?

Anyway, I think your cop friends took a wrong turn. Have them start with my military records. Hope that helps.

Well breaks over, back to work.

Don't know what you mean by the people here agree with you.

I think you are rude to the point that I don't care if you ever figure out your problem or the issue you are having with your car.
