intake manifold

Where is it and how do I remove it? Is there a DIY or FAQ out there?

I have a problem with the A/C idle. The RPM goes nuts from 1.5-2000 when A/C is on and idle. When I turn it off the engine shuts off. When I'm not idle the A/C is just fine. Sometimes when I'm idle without the A/C on the car revs up a little and the engine shakes a bit. I read the problem in the E30 forum about checking the hoses and connectors under the intake manifold. I just don't know where it is and how to take it out. Can anyone help?

Well, its a little different on the E36 cars, but I have heard of problems with vacuum leaks where the throttle body meets the intake manifold, It could also be the boot going from the airflow meter to the throttle body.

Your best bet is to just inspect the area for any craked or hard vacuum lines. I would use the search function to look for old threads dealing with this. I think there was a discussion about this a few weeks back...

Take a good look at the accordion boot to your Air Mass Meter. It tends to crack in places you can't see.

finally fixed!

after weeks of waiting for a new DME, which I was given 3 opinions on to replace, i finally received a cheap one i found on ebay. thank god. it worked!

all of that idle craziness and bad a/c idling turned out to be the computer after all.

just wanted to let you all know.

Do you know why it failed? Probably water getting into it. You need to make sure the compartment with the DME brain has a way for water to drain out, or you will be going through this whole dance again somewhere down the road...

yea it was due to a high pressure car wash that wiped out some ignition coils + DME. i read your article on DME compartment drainage but I dont think I can do it myself. where can i get this done? a dealer or authorized mechanic? and how about replacing the molding under my windshield? would that help? it looks a bit cracked
