Computer Display Dim?

I've got a '86 325es in which the onboard computer display has suddenly become very dim. This is the display which shows average MPG, avg speed, temperature, etc... The LCD readout used to be bright red, now it is barely visible in the dark. Any ideas? No other fuses or lights are having issues.

Thanks,

Chris

The bulbs have burned out. I have the same problem in my 88. I have not got to it yet, but I ubderstand yiu have to remove all plastic covers under the dash on the passenger side and just replace the small rectangular holder holding the bulbs in, nd I understand that pelican has it and it isn't that expensive.

You need to remove the OBC from the dash to do it..

Kinda tricky, Yuo should remove the radio, open the glovebox, remove panels, then remove the white plastic insert. Put the new one in and you're done...

Sounds like a PITA. So you can't just pop out the OBC to get access? Hmm. I hate it when a $2 part fails but it requires hours of your time to replace it.

Thanks all!

I recently did this job... wasn't that bad. Less than 2 hours to be sure. A few sticky points, but fairly intuitive... and having all the lights working again, just makes the car feel better to drive.
