Question Abient temperature anyone?

hi, have any of you guys ever had this problem? its on my 1995 e36 m3, well in the OBD, the temperature shows to be -37 degress celcius. I changed the sensor and it shows -35 degrees celcius. Does anyone happen to know what could be wrong? help is very much appreciated. thanks.

i have the same problem. the new sensor is supposed to fix the 10 dings per day notifying you it is freezing outside.

Does the temperature ever change, or is it always fixed at -37?

I don't know if this applies, and given that there are few of you experiencing the same problem, maybe not, but I had a similar issue on my wife's Town&Country. Replaced the sensor and the temp was still way off (and fixed). I ended up tracing the wiring and found a break in one of the wires so there was an open circuit (infinite resistance). Fixed that and it's been working fine ever since.

If you have the Bentley manual, trace the wiring diagram for the sensor to see if there is a connector along the way. Perhaps the contacts are a bit corroded and any little variation in resistance will show up as a big temperature change.

right... thanks... i thought so too. cause when i installed the new sensor, it shows -35 not -37 which means there must be some resistance somewhere. but i dont have time to trace em now. talking about rust i doubt that mine is due to rust. Well ill find out and let u guys know too. thanks for the help.

Temperature sender problems

My sender was missing, the display showing -37 and after fitting the sender it showed -36.2 but I left it over night and the next day it was working fine. I think it takes a while for the computer to re-calibrate it self.

What you are seeing is typical of an open circuit somewhere in the temp measurement wiring. Trace the wiring from the sensor to the dash module, you'll be sure to find a break in the wiring or an unplugged connector somewhere (most likely).
