I have a 95 325is, my check engine light is on and I just failed my emissions test. So I decided I would use the peddle stomp trick to find out my fault codes. I followed the link on the pelican parts web site, and to my surprise no fault codes were sent. So I popped my hood and sure enough my car is indeed OBD1 certified, and manufactured in 04/95. So why won’t my car throw codes? I’m turning the key into the on position making sure the engine is off and stomping the gas 5 times in five seconds just like the article says. Please someone tell me why I can’t get my fault codes.

There may be a variety of factors - I have seen some cars where this just refuses to work. One thing that may be wrong is that your mircoswitch that tells the car the pedal is all the way down may indeed be broken.
The first time I tried the pedal trick, I couldn't get it to work properly. I don't even bother with the test, I got one of the code reading tools, it's much easier to use, and it works on many different cars too: http://www.pelicanparts.com/BMW/catalog/shopcart/BE36/POR_BE36_fuelij_pg6.htm#item46 -Wayne
