325 valve cover gasket replacement
hey guys,
Trying to replace my valve cover gasket this weekend. I've been leaking oil into the spark plug wells for about 5-10K miles now. Noticed the problem at the last spark plug change (5K miles ago) I want to change it before it starts causing any bigger problems. I ordered the valve cover gasket from pelican, and after i recieved it, it only includes the 2 outer gasket pieces, and does not include the "donuts" that seal the spark plug wells, which are the pieces i need! I have not disassembled anything yet, and want to make sure i have all the parts before i start taking anything apart. What else do i need? anyone have a blowup parts diagram of the valve cover gaskets? Thanks. Mike |

Same thing happened to me. I don't see the spart plug gaskets for my car on this site. You can go to them. They sell a valve cover set that comes with all the gaskets and even all new bolts and bolt seals.

I found this link very helpful:
http://home.earthlink.net/~frankie66/cars-bmw_diy_valvecover.html I just did this very job myself. I repainted my valve cover since it was a lot cheaper than getting a new one. Good luck.......easy job, but takes a while.

Hi All
I have a 97 528i, and am starting to see some seepage around the gasket. How bad should I let it get before replacement? Thanks! Thanks for posting the tutoria...very helpful. Beerguy |

Is the seepage on the perimeter or in the spark plug wells? Significant seepage into the spark plug wells will become a problem. The perimeter is a nuisance but I wouldn't let it get too bad. If you want to postpone it you can might try putting just a tiny bit of torque on the cover bolts.
