A/C Vent issues

So i have a 94 318i and on the climate controls, dial controls, not digital, when i turn to arrow to the head position for the vents the air comes out cold with the a/c on, but when i turn the dial to have the a/c be directed to the feet or the windshield the air comes out hot even with the a/c on but then when you turn it back to the head position its cold air, what the heck is going on here? Thanks

Well, I think nothing is wrong. My car has the same symptom, but I have a separate temperature control for head air flow just under the central head air vent (it's similar with the on/off control of the central head air vent, but it has red and blue colors on it). And the head air vent is what I suppose to be "ventilation", which don't take in consideration the temperature control from A/C & heating controls, but only this horizontal rottary wheel with red & blue.
And is possible to have hot air on your feet, with cold air on your head - this keeps me awaken when I'm tired & driving.
