i have not worked on many bmw's and mine is an auto, so please forgive me if i lead you astray. most vehicles with a clutch have a master cyl (usually mounted on the firewall in front of the pedal, also where you would put the clutch fluid into its resivoir) a hose and a slave cylinder (should be mounted on the transaxle) the slave moves an arm inside the transaxle housing that engages and disengages the clutch. i will assume the fluid is clutch fluid(usually dot 3 or 4 brake fluid) that leaked out. please retrace the leak to the component that is giving you the problem (should be simple) i would not recommend a do it yourself rebuild kit if either the master or the slave is bad. you could all wys fill the resivoir up with fluid and have a friend push on the pedal while you look around with a flashlight.

the first thing you check is your reservoir which is the same one for the brakes. If its low you can get air in the brake lines, so fill it up first and start from there to see if there is any leaksaround espesially the blue hose that going to the firewall for your master clutch cylinder. But most likely it will be your cylinder on the tranny. How many miles on the car? it shouldn't happen if its not old.

o its old a 92 with 180kms
and everyones been tellin me im a idiot cuz i couldnt find the resavoir that storeed the hydraulic fluid(brake fluid) but i assumed it was shared by the brake one....anyways i have got like 3 cords coming from that resavoir...and then some steel piping that looks to be going to the master cylinder....i checked this morning and there wasnt any leaking, my brake fluid is between min and max so that shouldnt be the problem...i want to know what this liquid is its black and pretty runny!!! |

You definitely need to check that slave cylinder on the Franny first, about that fluid you need to change it,but thats after you find a problem first, cuz you might need to take that cylinder out.

I had the mechanic do it and it ended up about $300 with them buying the parts. they had it in and out same day though so it can't be that involved. pelican does have a tech article on replacing them yourself if you'd like to try.

$300 sounds cheap for a slave and master replacement. I would expect the parts alone to cost about $300.

it wasn't bad at all. I can't remember what parts were but they came from pelican. labor wasn't much but I might have gotten a deal. I don't know.

Looks like the master and slave are only 50-75 each. That's nice.
