rear camber people, have ?
saw the discussion about rear camber so here is new thread about my uncertainty.
bought my e36 with low mileage-40k miles 5 years ago- but it had new rear tires so did not notice severe scrubbing of inner threads which i have come to know is excess neg. camber. i am a DIY'er so i cranked back about 1/2 of the camber at the concentric bolt each side, but never had an alignment. when i get new rear tires will the alignment shop ignore bmw's printed factory specs and set my rear camber to minimum tire wear , or will they use factory spec settings from where i beleive my excessive wear came?? |

Just tell them what camber you want. There is no telling what camber they will set it to. I'll bet some aligment shops just use the same camber for every car.

that's just the point, i cannot quote a # to the shop to get the least possible rear tread wear.
your comment has promped me to check bentley's which says my stock setting should be set at -1 degree and 40'. how do i know if this will give me the least tread wear? is the answer merely trial and error? when i reduced my neg camber in my house garage the ecentric bolts were about mid range so i reduced the neg. camber to a quarter of the total range. |

The toe angle has a lot to do with inside shoulder wear as well. Make certain that there is no toe-out; you want a little toe-in as a matter of fact. That will keep the rear end of the car behind you in a turn... In fact, the majority of your tire wear may just be caused by the toe setting being off.
I would go with the stock recommendations for negative camber, as long as the rest of the car is stock. That should give a good compromise between tire wear, ride comfort, and handling. --DD

Don't forget that the car should be weighted properly when it is aligned. The Bentley will tell you what those specifications are.

thanks for comments...
toe had not been considered as that area has not been touched since build and RTAB's seem solid.
well, only a real align. w/ printout will likely satisfy me now. |
