Delayed Rpm Drop When Throttle Closed
My 1994 325ic has 1.5 to 2.0 second delayed when throttle closed. Occurs in gear, out of gear and at all speeds.
My 1994 325ic does not promptly drop to idle RPM when throttle is closed. This occurs in gear, out of gear and at all speeds. It prevents normal gear shifting synchronization both up and down. It delays engine braking when off gas. It causes the engine to hunt in cruise control. Etc. The delay is about 1.5-2.0 seconds before the engine responds to the closed throttle. It acts much like a sticky throttle cable, with rpm's slowly mushing down instead of dropping sharply. (The linkage appears to be free and clicks smartly against the throttle stop when manually opened and released.) I'll appreciate any thoughts. Thanks. Z

when i bought my 1992 325i 6 month ago, it was doing the same thing.
I did clean all the intake track. The idle valve too. I adjusted the idle too. Now it is ok. I didnt change any parts. I also suspect that the engine was a bit fouled and gummed, the po was a women and she was shifting like at 2500rpm no more. Now that i run the hell out of it every day, it runs better and better, go figure. Oil consumption also stoped ![]() Pat Allen |
