mass Air Flow Sensor

Just started back to repairing my 95 325iC.
I know there has been discussion about checking the mass air flow sensor with a blow dryer.
What am I looking for when hot air is blown on it?
Seconf question, what ##*** type screws are used to mount it to the box?

screws used to mount the throttle-body...

I haven't heard of any specific test that you can do with a hair dryer. What is the problem with the car?

The MAF tube mounts to the air filter box with two metal clips.

Car is a 95 325iC.
Is there a way to check the Mass Air Flow Sensor at home?
I unplugged the connector and the engine ran smoother but at a higher RPM (1300) but when I truned it off it starts and then shuts down.
Can the sensor be replaced or does the whole housing body have to be changed?
O'Reilly's wants $180.00 puls the core.

I'd try and clean it first. CRC makes a MAF cleaner and as a bonus, there are coupons in several magazines for a full rebate on the purchase price. (around $6)

There is a probe test procedure for it. I'm sure it is in the Bentley. I wish I had an electronic version the Bentley.
