96 M3 idle problem...
Just purchased a '96 M3 and I love this car! Has a couple issues though...
Previous owner installed aftermarket cold air intake and said since then check engine light has been on. Said he scanned for codes and came up with MAP sensor malfunction. Said he replaced sensor but light did not go out. I rented a scanner and will scan system tomorrow and see what comes up... Also, having trouble with idle. Sometimes when I come to stop light engine will die. Have been told this may be a coil issue or possibly a malfunctioning oxygen sensor. Any ideas on how to further diagnose these problems??? Thanks! |

I would guess a bad MAF. Maybe he was lying when he said he repaced it?
Other ideas are: An air leak in the intake system form a hoel or poor fitting part. A bad connection or broken wire beween the MAF and the ECU. A method for probe testing the MAF is in the Bentley manual. Also, try searching the web for P0101 and "BMW" or "E36" or "M3". Other good OBD resources are: http://www.obd-codes.com/ http://tech.bentleypublishers.com
