Reverse Light issues

Hey guys -- have an issue with the reverse light on my M3 not working at all

the car just past NY state inspection not more the a month ago so they were working then. The bulbs are fine and theres little chance of them both blowing at the same time

Is there a switch in the transmission that may be out of place or is there simply a fuse that could be making this a problem

The comp is stating tail light failure every time the lights come on but yet everything is working except for my reverse light

Some ideas would be great

thanks

I assume its a manual tranny. What year?

There is a switch on the tranny it can go bad and the wires can be damaged. I would either start there or in the trunk wiring.

After early 96 BMW fixed a wire problem by putting a shield around the wires where they enter the trunk. So check the wires where they enter the deck lid.
