daddie,
Your convertible top has a number or limit switches on it. One of them is used to lower the windows automatically when you lower the rag top. Sounds like your problem is in that area. |

could it have something to do with the door locking cuz it only goes down that 1/4 inch like when you open the door ?

Strange window behaviour
I had a similar problem about 6 months ago which sorted itself, then the window dropped down completely and wouldn't go anywhere. i had to take out the window mechanism and fabricate a new coosh bearing drive the original is made of plastic with 3 pegs that break off. i made a new one out of steel using 3 socket head cap screws and a welder. i doubt it will break now!! i have a small machine shop with a lathe and MIG+TIG welding capability. if you don't have this facility you might be stuck! i can provide photos and dimensions if required.

It could very well have something to do with the door locking system. You did not initially mention that the windows were only giong down a short way. It still sounds like some issues with limit switches, only these are related to the door lock mechanism instead of the rag top.

Those switches are right in the door latches. You should be able to test them by pressing the switch when the door is open (window should raise). When you release the switch the window should lower again. Sorry, don't have a picture. I've never replaced those, but they shouldn't be too difficult.

door switches
My convertible did the same on the passenger side, turned out to be the door latch switch was a bit worn, allowing the switch to make and break contact while driving. I just replaced the latch switch and problem went away.
However, when you have the door open and press this switch, the window should rise, and then fall again when you release it, so if yours is not doing anything, maybe the wiring behind it is loose/corroded? Do both doors not function when you press the individual switches? |
