Random No Start

Hey,
I usually lurk on the 944 board but my brothers 1992 E36 wouldn't start today. He called me from 900 miles away and has little mechanical knowledge so I suggested he tap on the fuel relay while trying to start it. It started right up. He attempted to put in a new relay, he had a hard time identifying it in the fuse box so I can't confirm he changed the correct one, but he's still having starting issues.

I don't know these cars well so are there any obvious things/common solutions you guys can suggest.

Thanks in advance
-Jason
