Can I put an M3 instrument cluster in an E36?

The gauges on my '93 325i only work about half the time. When they work, they work fine, but when they don't work they dance around (mileage etc. still displays though). I have access to an E36 M3 instrument cluster, can I pop it in my car no problem? Also, I've heard theres a method to transferring over your mileage to display properly on a newly installed gauge cluster, but I can't find any info on it...

An E36 M3 armrest should fit in my car too, right? Mine is getting pretty ripped up.

Also as long as I'm here, is there anything else of note I'd want off an M3 for my E36? The M3 is being parted out, and all that came to mind were the things that need immediate attention on my car (the armrest/gauges).

Thanks for any input!

Anyone?

My window of time to get the M3 instrument cluster is closing...I'd hate to buy it and not be able to put it in my car.

I had the same problem with my 94 325is and I changed it out last summer. The answers I received on different forums....well, lets say varied greatly. If I remember correctly, you want to stay with a cluster that is obd 1. In addition don't forget to disconnect your battery when doing the swap. Not disconnecting the battery can do two things that are annoying at best. The first, and to me the most important, is it can (and has) flash the odometer tamper light. This will cause concern to anyone who knows what it is (dealers, buyers, etc.)and is just plain annoying to see it flash all day. The other is the air bag light will come on and stay on for several minutes. This can be reset through your obd1 port. As for the mileage of the odometer, I have been told that you can swap a plug on the back of the unit. I found no such plug on my 94 or the replacement. I think that is for the obd2 units. I have also read that the stealership can program the odometer but you have to buy a new one from them. So, if the M3 is about the same year and obd, aside from having a M3 logo on it, I see no problem swapping. I would however replace the bulbs in it since you already have it out. I hope this helps. P.S. If you do find a way to change the mileage please post it. Thanks
