Replacing RearShock
I have a Bentley and Haynes and have read the site how to and still I am confused. Kids 1990 325ic had a rear shock piston rod snap and I am going in and replace the injured shcick. All indications are that I must remove the two (left and right) support bolts in order to remove the shock remains. I thought just taking off the piston rod nut (the one that threads on would release the shock. Give me more information, please.

Hello Sir,
I'm not sure what you're asking, but rear shock replacement is a snap. Each shock has two nuts per shock mount, and a long bolt that connects to the bottom. If possible, use after market shock mount supports, or racing ones. The OEM sucks. |

Also use the reinforcing plates..
They go on the top outside of the shock mount. Prevent future sheet metal damage.

Rea Shock Replaement
Job is done and once I had the support bracket nuts off and stuff fell in my face I was almost home. The shock rod had fractured at base of upper support bracket so a bit of the tube and the threaded rod were still attached to bracket. I put what was left in a vise and was able to turn center nut, off thereby saving top piece of the bracket. All went great until I went to put the center nut on and of course the shock tube started rotating. I Had daughter turn the nut down while I lay under and held the shock tube to keep it from rotating, Again, thanks to all who responded.
