Heater Issues Please help

Hi all great looking site. Can anyone plz help ? BMW E36 320i Coupe 1993. Heater seems to blow hot air regardless of temp setting ??? Any ideas . Its None aircon. If its set to cold on the direction control the centre ducts blow cold ( normal i think ) However if in say down ( foot ) position the temperature control makes no difference, continuously on hot. Also out of curiosity, The rotary temp control is electronic, What does it actually adjust ?? Might be a stupid question but on my previous None BMW cars they are controlled by a cable that just alters a flap manually.

Sussed it , Thought i would post the remedy here in case others have the same issue ( Apparently a common fault ). The problem turned out to be the Heater Control Valve located on the offside bulkhead stuck in the open position ( If stuck in the closed position it will cause the heater to only blow cold / luke warm air ) causing the Rotary dial inside the car to short out. If you get either of these problems then always replace both the HCV and the rotary switch as a pair because if the HCV sticks it will almost always take out the Switch inside the car as well. Hope this helps others in the future
