Warm engine stall then won't start??
First post here guys,,,,,I have a 1987 BMW 325is 5spd, with 55K original miles. Car is in excellent condition and has just had the timing belt, water pump, thermo, water hoses, and fuel filter replaced about 2 months ago.
Car ran fine when it came back from shop at first, then I noticed an occassional engine 'hiccup' that would light the check engine. It always went off, but then the car stalled a couple times when warm, and then a few more times when hot and idling. It always started right back up, but then a week ago it stalled again when hot and would not start right back up. The car is home now and will start right up when cold, and run fine until, I believe, it reaches operating temps, then will stall and not restart until cold. I noticed a small crack in the air intake boot and plugged that up, but still same situation. Was wondering if anyone has been through this, or could direct me in the right direction so I don't just start throwing parts at it, or take it to a shop with no idea what it could be. I do have the Bentley service manual, but their troubleshooting section is a mile long. Thanks to all in advance!!! Jeff

You are correct in looking at intake are leaks first. They are the most common, and easiest problem to diagnose and correct. That being said, the first thing that you will notice is the car won't idle, but will run when the acceleator is applied. When a intake leak is the culpret, the car runs erratic, but will fire, hot or cold.

Thanks coolbear,,,,,the thing that has me confused is, when the car is cold it will start right up and idle FINE until it reaches operating temps (about 5 to 10 minutes), but will then act like it's not getting fuel, and die. At that point it will not start (turns over, but again, acts like it is fuel starved) up until it is completely cooled off.
I have started it cold and driven it for 5 or so miles, but when I turn it off it will not start again... Like I said, I would love to be able to fix myself without throwing a ton of new parts on trying to find problem, or at the minimum, have a good grasp of the problem before taking to a local shop for repairs...

Sounds fuel related to me. I would start by checking the fuel pressure. There is a check valve. re; chiltons man...
