Newbee with 328i convertible and rough running
I purchased a 1996 328i convertible (102k) and I love it but I do have a problem that I can't seem to solve.
The car runs rough @ 1000 rpm. I can also hear some stumbling from the engine at the tail pipe. It's worse some days than others. I've replaced the plugs and spark plug boots. also fixed a secondary air pump code (bad diverter). And too it to a BMW shop who did nothing useful except take my money. I ordered a coil and went thru each of the cylinders with the new coil but didn't see that moving the new coil thru the cylinders made any real difference in how it ran. Unless perhaps there's more than 1 bad coil. (somehow I doubt that and there are no codes) I've also ran a few bottles of Techron thru and that really hasn't helped either. |

The Techron won't really do anything except eventually eat away the rubber fuel lines. I'd avoid it.
What kind of spark plugs are in it/were in it? This could be a few different things, but describe what you mean by rough. Is it better off-idle? |
