also, are the transmission codes read from a separate location than the obd port on the lower drivers side dash?
are all trans codes reported to the ecu as well? is there a seperate cel for transmission faults on the dash or do they post as 'check engine'? thanks in advance ps- it seems a little disheartening that the auto trans section of the service manual only has checking fluid, changing fluid and filter, AND REPLACING TRANSMISSION : - __________________ This post was auto-generated based upon a question asked on our tech article page here: Pelican Technical Article: BMW Automatic Transmission Fluid Change |

Yes, welcome to the complex world of automatic transmissions, where if you have a problem, you get a new transmission. There is a separate light for transmission faults. The code readers I've seen that could read the transmission faults did it through the big round connector. OBD-II code readers do not read transmission codes - those are proprietary to BMW (of course). The best recommendation is to take the car to someone who has the tools to be able to read the codes out of the car - simple off-the-shelf readers will not be able to accomplish this.
